The next step…

No, this post isn’t about babies. It’s about houses! Gage and I have been discussing buying a house for a while now. And now seems like a great time because Uncle Sam would like to reward us with $8,000 for being 1st time homebuyers!

So naturally the first step is finding a house. Well, that was the easy part! ..or so we thought. We went and looked at a house in Dupont, super cute, 3 bedrooms, corner lot, nice yard, great price. We were pre-approved for a loan, met with a realtor, walked through the house and decided this was it. We wrote up an offer and promptly found out that someone else had already put in an offer. So we upped our offer. Full asking price and seller pays part of the closing costs. We waited and waited. The deadline was to hear a response by Monday at 9pm. Nothing. Well, long story short, we were outbid.

Now for Plan B. I searched and searched for houses in Dupont. Nothing fit our criteria (3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths). Nothing was in our price range. Or in the right location. It was looking hopeless. Then I randomly thought about the option of building a house. I looked at floor plans, found one that would suit our lifestyle and budget, then texted Gage with the idea. Immediately he thought it was a great idea. So I contacted Quadrant Homes to make sure they had a lot located in the area we wanted to build. Sure enough, they did! So I told Gage that they had a 2 choices for lots and that we should seriously consider this option and that we would need to act fast. Gage looked at the floor plan and the lot location and was along for the ride.

So then that Saturday we walked through the model, talked to the mortgage guy, filled out our purchase and sale agreement, signed on the dotted line and we are officially building a house!

Fast forward to today, 5 days after we signed the purchase agreement. We went and walked through the showroom yesterday. This basically entailed picking out all the flooring, cabinets, appliances, interior and exterior colors and so much more. For the most part the decisions were easy. We agreed on most things almost immediately and were able to compromise when we didn’t mutually like something. The only time I had to get serious with Gage was picking out the exterior color of the house. This is a HUGE decision. This is something that isn’t easy or cheap to change. So we went with English wedgewood which is a bluish gray cadet color. Now the next step is to finalize our selections, complete our loan application, and get started building!

The house should be done sometime in June!

So now onto the pictures!

This is the view when you look to the left of our house. That’s the Fort Lewis golf course in the distance. It’s a very quiet street with very little traffic.

This is our lot looking back to front. The garage will be located on the backside of the house.

I’m planning on going back to the showroom on Friday and will take pictures of the stuff we picked out for the interior!
